The Evolution of Energy healing: Reiki V Angel Reiki

Being a long time Usui Reiki Practioner, I have often felt privileged to act as a channel of healing and good energy for others. Recently I have been intrigued by angel Reiki and I was curious to understand the key differences between the two practices. And what I have learnt is that it’s not possible to give an absolute answer because the teaching of Usui Reiki differs from teacher to teacher and country to country! It also got me thinking how effective healing can be in reality and in the long term for clients seeking help via more spiritual healing methods.

In essence, Usui Reiki channels universal life force energy (Rei-Ki), whereas Angelic Reiki utilises angelic energies and divine guidance with higher spiritual beings and emphasises spiritual evolution. Then here is the difference in regard to “attunement”. The teacher does not do the attunement with Angelic Reiki and the energy does not come through the them as is the case with Usui Reiki attunement.

The attunements are apparently done by ‘The Angelic Kingdom of Light’ and given to each individual by their own ‘Healing Angel’. Furthermore this is not the Angel that has come to them to do healing, it is the Angelic energy that creates the link for that person as a healer to the Angelic Kingdom. It is an Angel that manifests as an interface between each individual and the Angelic Kingdom of Light in order to facilitate that special connection of Angelic Reiki

It is thought that when an attunement comes through a human consciousness, it is touched by that consciousness, but when it comes directly as a gift from the Angels it is given in its pure state. Therefore there is no human lineage because each attunement is directly given anew by the Angels and the symbols are integrated through sacred geometry.

One of the key differences is that Angelic Reiki includes a specific attunement to the “wisdom and Divine gifts of the Angelic Kingdom of Light”. This is given by the 30 Archangels known as the ‘Mighty Sarim’ which includes names with which we are familiar and many others. This is done through a meditation that takes the participant to the Temple of the Angelic Hierarchy of Light There there is a meditation to connect the participants to their ‘Feeling Body’ or greater consciousness. This opens up a greater awareness of our multi-dimensional self. An attunement connecting to the gifts, qualities and essence of the 10 Archangels of the Tree of Life.

With regards to healing, the angelic system includes 9 different healing methods, all directed by the Angels. Angels do all the healings and the role of the healer is simply to hold the space. Perhaps the most difficult part of an Angelic Reiki healing is for the healer to maintain a totally passive role.

The philosophy and teaching of Angelic Reiki is based on what is termed ‘The Ancient Wisdom’, rather than new-age spirituality. This includes all time-honoured spiritual practices such as protection, cleansing and dedicating a space, and many other aspects of spiritual practice. Much more information on this subject is available in the Angelic Reiki book written by Christine Core.

Usui Reiki is based on the idea that within our body flows a subtle “life-force-energy” which causes us to be alive and is the source of our vitality. When this energy is strong and flowing smoothly it manifests as good health and happiness, whereas when it is depleted or disrupted we are more likely to suffer ill-health and low mood. Acupuncture, Shiatsu, Tai-Chi, Ayurved, Reflexology and Yoga all share this same basic idea with Reiki.

The aim of all these practices is to foster health and wellbeing by increasing the amount of life-force-energy in a person’s system, and harmonising that energy within the system, and dissolving energetic blockages. This is achieved in various ways:

  • By living in alignment with natural spiritual principles.

  • By channelling energy from an unlimited reservoir of universal divine energy (ReiKi) into our own energy system through the power of conscious intention.

  • By receiving Reiki Healing from a trained practitioner, who uses their own connection to the universal energy in order to channel Reiki into our system.

Many people usually associate Reiki with the last of these three approaches. It is normally seen as something that we receive from a Reiki practitioner in the same way that we might receive a massage from a massage therapist. But while receiving Reiki in this way can be a wonderful experience and a powerful support on our healing journey, this is often just the beginning of Reiki and someone’s journey into it.

If we are new to energy healing or suffering from an acute illness, it makes a lot of sense to turn to an experienced Reiki practitioner to receive some treatments. Such practitioners can act as a conduit to allow the universal divine energy to flow into our system and replenish our energy, bringing us back towards wellness and vitality. This is a very beautiful gift we can give to ourselves.

Reiki treatments are wonderfully relaxing, often full of radiant peace, an exquisite sense of deep well-being and security because as the divine energy flows into us, boosting our subtle energy system and increasing our vitality, it also helps to clear away trapped negative energy, as well as negative attitudes and emotions. Therefore Reiki therapy can leave us feeling re-vitalised and renewed, cleansed and full of hope — a feeling which can sometimes last for days or even weeks.

However, for most people, unless treatments are supported by a corresponding shift in lifestyle and outlook, the chances are that whatever improvements are felt during and after Reiki Healing will eventually fade and we will return to our previous state of imbalance.

This is because the deep energetic patterns which are at the root cause of so many people’s issues are not usually addressed or transformed through one or even a series of treatments and the same situation can be said of all people who seek out therapy: in order to see lasting results we need to take an active responsibility for our own healing, and to see our whole lives as creating the conditions for health or its absence. Only in this way can we been to work with the underlying patterns which create our experiences in life.

Furthermore both traditional and angelic Reiki are wonderful and powerful forms of healing if people are open to receive – often people don’t know what they want other than a desire to escape uncomfortable feelings and situations in thier lives. For so long orthodox religion and spirituality have placed all spiritual power in the hands of higher beings and their representatives. This has created a lower/higher divide which I perhaps feel is neither empowering for us nor perhaps true. Usui and Angelic Reiki and Christian “laying of hands” healing are all examples of systems which follow this deep divide, each requiring a higher being to be present that works through the human.

In the journey of remembering our divine sovereignty and the perfection of who we are, these as well as other traditions and techniques can certainly help us on our way, but they can only take us so far. As human beings we are much more than we think we are. The evolution of energy for me as a Reiki practitioner means attuning to that which we already are, not to something outside ourselves when we access help and healing. It means allowing ourselves be restored to the perfection that is already within us.

Therefore Reiki and energy healing in all ts current forms has a significant role to play for people, especially in times of crisis, grief, sickness and for when people are seeking relief low and anxious states of mind. But for real transformation to take place, encouragement should be offered for people to take ownership of their healing and their trajectory forward in life. As we act as facilitators of energy we perhaps should also act as facilitators for encouraging individuals to take their personal power back and with that empowerment comes true transformation and healing.
