The Snow Moon
The second full moon of the year, fittingly called the snow moon will reach its peak Wednesday. It’s the third and final full moon of meteorological winter, which runs from December to February. Full moons have many names which are typically linked to outdoor activities of natives and farmers during the time of year they occur. The final full moon of meteorological winter goes by the particularly apt moniker of the Snow Moon. Many Native American tribes in the northwestern U.S. also referred to it as the storm moon, in reference to frequent snowstorms, or the hunger moon, as harsh winter conditions made hunting difficult.
We may have grey skies and drizzle in lieu of a dreamy snow-scape in the UK right now, but we can tap into this moon’s hopeful energy all the same. If there ever was a time for embracing an ending that becomes a wonderful new beginning, it’s on this full moon.
February 2025’s full moon falls in practical earth sign Leo and it’s associated with creativity, romance and self-expression. Therefore the most beneficial thing you can do this full moon is to listen to your heart, your gut feeling – your all-knowing and important intuition. Focus on what you would really love to see come into fruition for yourself and use the full moon as an excellent opportunity to realign your hopes, dreams and wishes with your authentic self and what your inner voice is saying. This full moon also falls just two days before Valentine’s Day and as it falls in Leo, the sign associated with love, February 12 will be a great day to embrace love, connection and romance for yourself.
Full moons are like magical portals for both manifestation and release and this Snow Moon is no exception. Appearing as winter draws to a close, this is the ideal full moon moment for shaking it off and starting over as we head into spring.
Easy full moon rituals you can try include:
Journaling using the prompt ‘In my best life, I wake up and…’
Getting outside and moon bathing
Charge and cleanse any crystals you may have
Writing down everything you wish to let go of and burning the paper
Lighting a candle and making a wish for your future self
Take a salt bath to cleanse your aura
Cleanse your living space with white sage or palo sinto wood
Because we are so close to Valentine’s Day, charge a rose quartz crystal in the moonlight and then wear it to manifest love for yourself and of yourself
People often feel more emotional on the build up to a full moon and while there’s no real scientific consensus on how Moons affect our moods and physical well-being, there are plenty of studies and real-life experiences that blame it for everything from increased crime and injuries to lack of sleep.
People often find when they align their energies with the specific lunar phases, they feel more inspired and productive. Tuning into nature and the environment around us has been shown to help us understand ourselves on a deeper level. This is why many people engage in monthly routines for self-care to get in alignment with the cycles of nature in order to gain perspective and reconnect with themselves, which feels more important to us all these days.
With regard to emotions during this February 2025 Snow Moon, this is the last time for deep introspection, stillness and to start taking gentle steps towards renewal as we begin to move out of winter. The focus ideally should be placed on releasing old patterns and embracing subtle shifts happening beneath our surface – exactly like how the snow covering the earth while new life prepares to bloom underneath, it’s a moment to surrender to the quiet transformation occurring within, allowing for a slower and more mindful awakening into spring.
Reflection and release:The snow symbolizes purity and cleansing, encouraging a deep look inward to let go of emotional burdens and negative energy.
Inner warmth: Despite the cold imagery, the Snow Moon can also represent the inner fire and potential for growth that lies beneath the surface, encouraging us to tap into our inner strength.
Gentle movement:Yoga practices during this moon might focus on slower, more restorative poses, allowing for deep relaxation and contemplation.
Intuition and awareness:The Snow Moon is a time to pay close attention to your inner voice and subtle shifts in your body and mind.
